Mổ đây! Mổ đây! Bài 7 – Tomahawk Serve. Mổ đây! Mổ đây!
The tomahawk serve is called the tomahawk serve because it likes throwing a tomahawk. I can say that I’m not ever throwing one. So the main points are keep the semi circle action and swing through the ball and get a fine brushing contact.
For the tomahawk serve the stance is 45 degree side on to the table. You can stance square on to the table if you like but you need to turn your waist when you’re doing the serve. You can also be completely side on to the table if you like. We recommend you stance 45 degree as a good starting point. Later on you can adjust that to your own suitability.
This is the grip we use for the tomahawk serve. It’s very similar to the shake hand grip but now what we’re going to do is we just turn the bat in our hand a little bit. A little bit around to the backhand grip. From there, it’s easier to get a better of angle on your tomahawk serve. The other thing we can do is just loosen the fingers around the handle a fraction.
The tomahawk serve is a predominantly sidespin serve. With this serve is important to develop some control. You need to be able to serve the ball long when you need to. Just like that. Here is another long serve. But even more importantly, you need to be able to serve the ball short. So you need to develop some control and get a nice brushing action that allows you to get the ball to bounce twice on the table when you need to.
Let’s have a look at the sidespin serve first. See the ball curving after the bounces. Now let’s have a look at the contact point. The bat is vertical. That’s the important part about getting the sidespin on the serve.
Now for the backspin serve. It also has some sidespin on it but the contact now is underneath. You can see Jeff’s bat is laying back to come underneath the ball on contact.
